Officials say the first round of bids came in roughly 50 million dollars over budget. Now, the state is shifting to a construction management risk process to bring costs down, with leaders saying reducing the size of the building would be a last resort. The project is now expected to open around 2030.In Charleston, labor tensions are rising as about 50 Teamsters Local 175 members have authorized a strike against The Beverage Market. The union says workers rejected what they call unacceptable contract proposals, including increased health insurance costs and reduced overall compensation. The company distributes major beverage brands across much of the state, and no strike date has been announced.Also in Charleston, a weekend track meet at Laidley Field was abruptly canceled after gunshots were reported nearby. Police say a 20-year-old man from South Carolina is now facing four counts of wanton endangerment. Investigators used surveillance video from nearby businesses to identify the suspect. Officials say no one was injured, and no shots were fired inside the stadium.In northern West Virginia, the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston is preparing for new leadership. Reverend Evelio Menjivar has been named the next bishop following an announcement from Pope Leo the Fourteenth. Current Bishop Mark Brennan is set to step down July first, with Menjivar becoming the tenth bishop of the diocese.Meanwhile, Wheeling University is getting ready for its commencement ceremony this weekend. Schroer currently serves as CEO of The Schroer Group.n Martinsburg, multiple members of the West Virginia State Police have been placed on leave following an officer-involved shooting early Friday morning. Authorities say the incident happened around 1 a.m. near the Green Frog Bar.
